Chōkō­sai EISHŌ exact dates of life are unknown. Active from 1793 to 1801, he is con­sid­ered the most impor­tant and pro­duc­tive stu­dent of Icei. Like his mas­ter, Eishō devot­ed him­self to depict­ing beau­ti­ful women ( bijin-ga ). He designed a large num­ber of series on the sub­ject of beau­ties from the Freuden­vier­tel ( Yoshi­wara ) and mas­ter­ful half-length por­traits ( ōkubi‑e ) by cour­te­sans and actors.
His works appear less ele­gant than those of his mas­ter, but are more authen­tic and pow­er­ful in expres­sion. His mod­els includ­ed Chōbun­sai Eishi (1756–1829) and Kita­gawa Uta­maro (around 1753 / 54–1806). In 1800, Eishō devot­ed him­self main­ly to book illus­tra­tion and painting.
