Friedrich Meck­seper was born in Bre­men in 1936. He spent his child­hood in Stuttgart, where he com­plet­ed an appren­tice­ship as a mechan­ic from 1952 to 1955. After break­ing off his appren­tice­ship, he began study­ing at the State Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, which he con­tin­ued from 1957 to 1959 at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Fine Arts in Berlin. The first graph­ics, oil paint­ings and objects were cre­at­ed. From 1963 onwards, Meck­seper received hon­ors, includ­ing the Ger­man Rome Prize from Vil­la Mas­si­mo, in 1965 with a schol­ar­ship from the Kul­turkreis of the Asso­ci­a­tion of Ger­man Indus­try, in 1970 with the prize of the 7th Inter­na­tion­al Bien­ni­al Exhi­bi­tion of Prints in Tokyo and in 1990/1993 with the prize of 1. and 2nd Inter­na­tion­al Kochi Tri­en­ni­al Exhi­bi­tion of Prints in Tokyo award­ed. From 1977 to 1978 he accept­ed a vis­it­ing pro­fes­sor­ship at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Wup­per­tal and from 1977 to 1979 he was in charge of the etch­ing class. From 1961 to 1984, Meck­seper lived and worked in the artist vil­lage of Worp­swede, and since 1984 he has lived and worked in Berlin. In his artis­tic work he is influ­enced by, among oth­ers, Hierony­mus Bosch, Leonar­do da Vin­ci, Athana­sius Kirch­n­er, Julius Bissier, Saul Stein­berg and Anton Hey­boer. The artis­tic arrange­ment of objects in his work is sup­port­ed by his pre­cise tech­ni­cal imple­men­ta­tion. 1979 – first exhi­bi­tion in the Welz gallery.
