Friedrich Meckseper was born in Bremen in 1936. He spent his childhood in Stuttgart, where he completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic from 1952 to 1955. After breaking off his apprenticeship, he began studying at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, which he continued from 1957 to 1959 at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. The first graphics, oil paintings and objects were created. From 1963 onwards, Meckseper received honors, including the German Rome Prize from Villa Massimo, in 1965 with a scholarship from the Kulturkreis of the Association of German Industry, in 1970 with the prize of the 7th International Biennial Exhibition of Prints in Tokyo and in 1990/1993 with the prize of 1. and 2nd International Kochi Triennial Exhibition of Prints in Tokyo awarded. From 1977 to 1978 he accepted a visiting professorship at the University of Wuppertal and from 1977 to 1979 he was in charge of the etching class. From 1961 to 1984, Meckseper lived and worked in the artist village of Worpswede, and since 1984 he has lived and worked in Berlin. In his artistic work he is influenced by, among others, Hieronymus Bosch, Leonardo da Vinci, Athanasius Kirchner, Julius Bissier, Saul Steinberg and Anton Heyboer. The artistic arrangement of objects in his work is supported by his precise technical implementation. 1979 – first exhibition in the Welz gallery.
