Paul Flo­ra was born in Glurns im Vin­schgau in South Tyrol in 1922, stud­ied at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Munich from 1942 to 1944. His ear­ly work was strong­ly influ­enced by Kubin, but before 1950 he rad­i­cal­ly broke with the dense hatch­ing and turned to fine, del­i­cate draw­ing. Flo­ra con­se­quent­ly devel­ops an unmis­tak­able brush tech­nique.
