Alfred HRDLICKA was born in Vien­na-Brigit­te­nau in 1928. From 1943 to 1945, he com­plet­ed an appren­tice­ship as a den­tal tech­ni­cian in Vien­na. From 1946 to 1953, he stud­ied paint­ing at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Vien­na under Albert Paris Güter­sloh and Josef Dobrowsky. He then stud­ied sculp­ture with Fritz Wotru­ba from 1953 to 1957. In 1963, he was head of the sculp­ture class at the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Acad­e­my in Salzburg. In 1971 he was appoint­ed to the State Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, in 1973 to the Uni­ver­si­ty of Fine Arts in Ham­burg, in 1975 again to the Acad­e­my in Stuttgart, in 1986 to the Uni­ver­si­ty of the Arts in Berlin and in 1989 as head of the mas­ter class for sculp­ture at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Applied Arts in Vien­na. Alfred Hrdlic­ka died in Vien­na in 2009. 1963 — first exhi­bi­tion in the Welz gallery.
