Georg Loe­wit was born in Inns­bruck in 1959 and spent his child­hood in Inns­bruck, Vien­na and New York. 1974 — 1987 After grad­u­at­ing from the High­er Tech­ni­cal Col­lege for Wood and Stone Sculp­ture in Inns­bruck, he com­plet­ed an appren­tice­ship as a belt mak­er and gold­smith. After the mas­ter class at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Munich, he stud­ied art edu­ca­tion at the Mozar­teum Uni­ver­si­ty in Salzburg. From 1982 he was an assis­tant at the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Salzburg. As chair­man since 1986 and man­ag­ing direc­tor of the Tirol­er Kün­stler­schaft since 1990, he set impor­tant accents in the local art scene. From 1998 to 2002 he was artis­tic direc­tor of the RLB-Kun­st­brücke and in 2001 found­ed the RLB-Ate­lier in Lienz, whose exhi­bi­tion pro­gram he curat­ed until 2012. As in Georg Loewit’s sculp­tures, peo­ple play the main role in his paint­ings. In pub­lic places and loca­tions, the artist uses his cam­era to cap­ture views of peo­ple from behind and trans­lates what he has pho­tographed into a dif­fer­ent medi­um through cre­ative process­es. Georg Loe­wit lives and works in Inns­bruck. His works are rep­re­sent­ed in renowned col­lec­tions and have been shown in more than 150 nation­al and inter­na­tion­al exhi­bi­tions. 2019 — first exhi­bi­tion at Galerie Welz.
