Georg Loewit was born in Innsbruck in 1959 and spent his childhood in Innsbruck, Vienna and New York. 1974 — 1987 After graduating from the Higher Technical College for Wood and Stone Sculpture in Innsbruck, he completed an apprenticeship as a belt maker and goldsmith. After the master class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he studied art education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. From 1982 he was an assistant at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg. As chairman since 1986 and managing director of the Tiroler Künstlerschaft since 1990, he set important accents in the local art scene. From 1998 to 2002 he was artistic director of the RLB-Kunstbrücke and in 2001 founded the RLB-Atelier in Lienz, whose exhibition program he curated until 2012. As in Georg Loewit’s sculptures, people play the main role in his paintings. In public places and locations, the artist uses his camera to capture views of people from behind and translates what he has photographed into a different medium through creative processes. Georg Loewit lives and works in Innsbruck. His works are represented in renowned collections and have been shown in more than 150 national and international exhibitions. 2019 — first exhibition at Galerie Welz.
