Nieves SALZMANN, born in 1976 in Les Lilas, in France, studied literature and history at the Sorbonne from 1995 to 1997 and lithography and etching at the Ècole des Beaux Arts in Paris (Atelier Giuseppe Penone and Jean-Michel Alberola) from 1997 to 2002. In 1999 she attended a course at the stage design studio of the Comédie-Française. From 1999 to 2001, the artist worked on various stage designs, assisted in the theater L’Atelier in Paris and worked and assisted in various short films. A study visit took the painter and graphic artist to Madrid in 2001 to the Escuela de Bellas Artes (2002 diploma at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques). In 2002 and 2003 she assisted in the Patrick Devreux studio for lithography at the Ècole des Beaux Arts in Paris. From 2006 to 2014 Nieves Salzmann taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nice, École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts à la Villa Arson (professorship of lithography). From 2008 to 2010 followed assistantships and professorships at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg. In the following years, the artist completed additional training as a lighting technician. In 2018, Nieves Salzmann took over as Technical Director at the Comédie-Française in Paris, one of France’s five national theaters. Study trips took the artist to Cuba, Austria and Spain, among other places. Exhibitions, participations in exhibitions, fairs, light creations and scenographies in France, Austria, Germany, England and Finland, among others. Nieves Salzmann has received numerous prizes and awards including the 2ème prix de peinture “André et Berthe Noufflard in 2001 and the 1er prix de gravure Michel Ciry, Dieppe, 2008 Strabag Artaward 4/2008 for painting, 2011 invitation artist residency, Vienna, 2013 artist residency (lithography project, Neuhauser Kunstmühle), Salzburg and artist residency, Pays de Loire. Nieves Salzmann lives and works in Paris. 2011 — first exhibition participation, 2015 — first solo exhibition at Galerie Welz.
