Nieves SALZMANN, born in 1976 in Les Lilas, in France, stud­ied lit­er­a­ture and his­to­ry at the Sor­bonne from 1995 to 1997 and lith­o­g­ra­phy and etch­ing at the Ècole des Beaux Arts in Paris (Ate­lier Giuseppe Penone and Jean-Michel Albero­la) from 1997 to 2002. In 1999 she attend­ed a course at the stage design stu­dio of the Comédie-Française. From 1999 to 2001, the artist worked on var­i­ous stage designs, assist­ed in the the­ater L’Ate­lier in Paris and worked and assist­ed in var­i­ous short films. A study vis­it took the painter and graph­ic artist to Madrid in 2001 to the Escuela de Bel­las Artes (2002 diplo­ma at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts Plas­tiques). In 2002 and 2003 she assist­ed in the Patrick Devreux stu­dio for lith­o­g­ra­phy at the Ècole des Beaux Arts in Paris. From 2006 to 2014 Nieves Salz­mann taught at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Nice, École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts à la Vil­la Arson (pro­fes­sor­ship of lith­o­g­ra­phy). From 2008 to 2010 fol­lowed assist­ant­ships and pro­fes­sor­ships at the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Acad­e­my of Fine Arts Salzburg.
In the fol­low­ing years, the artist com­plet­ed addi­tion­al train­ing as a light­ing tech­ni­cian. In 2018, Nieves Salz­mann took over as Tech­ni­cal Direc­tor at the Comédie-Française in Paris, one of France’s five nation­al the­aters. Study trips took the artist to Cuba, Aus­tria and Spain, among oth­er places. Exhi­bi­tions, par­tic­i­pa­tions in exhi­bi­tions, fairs, light cre­ations and scenogra­phies in France, Aus­tria, Ger­many, Eng­land and Fin­land, among others.
Nieves Salz­mann has received numer­ous prizes and awards includ­ing the 2ème prix de pein­ture “André et Berthe Nouf­flard in 2001 and the 1er prix de gravure Michel Ciry, Dieppe, 2008 Stra­bag Artaward 4/2008 for paint­ing, 2011 invi­ta­tion artist res­i­den­cy, Vien­na, 2013 artist res­i­den­cy (lith­o­g­ra­phy project, Neuhauser Kun­st­müh­le), Salzburg and artist res­i­den­cy, Pays de Loire. Nieves Salz­mann lives and works in Paris.
