Josef Schwaiger was born in Linz in 1962. From 1982 to 1988, he stud­ied art and art edu­ca­tion at the Mozar­teum Uni­ver­si­ty in Salzburg. The artist has received sev­er­al awards, such as the Aus­tri­an State Schol­ar­ship in 1992. Since 2022 he has been teach­ing at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts, Vien­na, in the paint­ing work­shop. The artist lives and works in Vien­na and St. Valentin, Low­er Aus­tria. The focus of his artis­tic activ­i­ty is paint­ing itself, the inten­sive exam­i­na­tion of the mate­r­i­al used, pig­ments and binders, their struc­ture and prop­er­ties. Josef Schwaiger’s works are rep­re­sent­ed in numer­ous pub­lic and pri­vate col­lec­tions in the USA, Europe and South Africa. 2025 — first exhi­bi­tion at the Welz Gallery
