In the 1950s, abstract art stood for a new departure and new freedom. Whether clear geometric forms or spontaneous, gestural painting — many artists sought new ways of expression. At the same time, the depiction of people remained important and figuration made a conscious return. From the 1990s to the present day, European art has been more diverse than ever before. A wide variety of themes, styles and forms of expression stand side by side, inviting visitors to discover and experience art in a very individual way.
