Siegfried ANZINGER was born on February 25, 1953 in Weyer (Upper Austria). From 1971 to 1977 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Maximilian Melcher. After completing his studies, Anzinger went to Cologne, where he moved in 1982. As early as the 1980s, the artist was represented with his works at national and international art fairs and exhibitions, including “documenta” 7 in Kassel, the “Zeitgeist” exhibition at the Gropius Bau in Berlin and at the 1988 Venice Biennale. Siegfried Anzinger was one of the founders of the “New Wilds” in Austria at the beginning of the 1980s. He received awards for his work early on, including the Oskar Kokoschka Prize in 1986 and the Austrian State Prize for Fine Arts in 2004. Siegfried Anzinger has been Professor of Painting at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf since 1997. In 2013 he was elected to the North Rhine–Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts. While his early works were strongly expressive and gestural, his later works are much more reserved. Anzinger mainly works with glue paint. A thin, transparent color that cannot be corrected, the composition of the image must be achieved in one process. Since 2000, the subjects of animals, Madonnas, stories of creation and erotic representations have dominated his work.
