Max BECKMANN was born in Leipzig in 1884. From 1900, he stud­ied at the Grand Ducal School of Art in Weimar. 1903 move to Paris and study at the Académie Colarossi. Beck­mann lived in Berlin from 1904. In 1906, he took part in the exhi­bi­tion of the Berlin Seces­sion in Weimar and received the hon­orary prize of the Deutsch­er Kün­stler­bund. In 1907, the artist joined the Berlin Seces­sion. From around 1916, Max Beck­man­n’s style of paint­ing became more expres­sive, with the pic­to­r­i­al means increas­ing­ly serv­ing the con­tent of the mes­sage. The time-crit­i­cal and ironiz­ing atti­tude became char­ac­ter­is­tic of Beck­mann. In 1925, he took on a mas­ter class at the Städelschule in Frank­furt. In 1947 he became a pro­fes­sor at the Wash­ing­ton Uni­ver­si­ty Art School in St. Louis and in 1949 a lec­tur­er at the Art School of the Brook­lyn Muse­um in New York. Max Beck­mann died in New York in 1950. 1952 — First exhi­bi­tion at the Welz Gallery.
