Max BECKMANN was born in Leipzig in 1884. From 1900 stud­ies at the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar. 1903 move to Paris and study at the Académie Colarossi. Beck­mann lived in Berlin from 1904. In 1906 he took part in the exhi­bi­tion of the Berlin Seces­sion in Weimar and received the hon­orary award of the Ger­man Asso­ci­a­tion of Artists. In 1907 the artist joined the Berlin Seces­sion. From around 1916 onwards, Max Beckmann’s style of paint­ing became expres­sive, the pic­to­r­i­al means increas­ing­ly serv­ing the con­tent of the state­ment. The time-crit­i­cal and iron­ic atti­tude becomes char­ac­ter­is­tic of Beck­mann. 1925 Takeover of a mas­ter class at the Städelschule in Frank­furt. From 1947 a pro­fes­sor­ship at the Wash­ing­ton Uni­ver­si­ty Art School in St. Louis and in 1949 a teach­ing posi­tion at the Art School of the Brook­lyn Muse­um in New York. Max Beck­mann dies in New York in 1950. 1952 — First exhi­bi­tion at the Welz Gallery.
