Peter BISCHOF was born in Vien­na in 1934 and stud­ied in the 1950s at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Vien­na (with Boeckl and Güter­sloh). A large num­ber of per­son­al exhi­bi­tions were ded­i­cat­ed to the work of Peter Bischof, with his artis­tic break­through already in his first, in 1959 in the Vien­nese gallery next to St. Stephan. He belonged to the inner cir­cle of artists around Msgr. Otto Mauer. Since 1958 con­tin­u­ous par­tic­i­pa­tion in exhi­bi­tions and graph­ic bien­ni­als at home and abroad (Europe, Amer­i­ca, Japan and India). Mem­ber of the Vien­na Seces­sion and its vice-pres­i­dent in 1970/71. After ini­tial, some­times danc­ing-like phys­i­cal pen­e­tra­tion rep­re­sen­ta­tions, turn to a sta­t­ic-med­i­ta­tive rep­re­sen­ta­tion of the body. The artist lived and worked in Kösslwang (Upper Austria).
