Her­bert BOECKL was born in Kla­gen­furt in 1894. First he stud­ied archi­tec­ture at the Tech­ni­cal Uni­ver­si­ty in Vien­na. After the First World War he began to paint as an auto­di­dact, went to Berlin and Paler­mo, and a trip to Paris in 1923 gave him access to mod­ernism. In 1927 he already exhib­it­ed in the Vien­na Seces­sion. From 1935 to 1939 pro­fes­sor for gen­er­al paint­ing school at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts. Par­tic­i­pa­tion in the world exhi­bi­tions in Brus­sels in 1935 and in Paris in 1937. From 1939 head of the evening act. After the Sec­ond World War, he was briefly rec­tor of the acad­e­my.
