Hubert FISCHLHAMMER was born in Ried im Innkreis / Upper Austria in 1925. From 1940–41 he was a guest student of Prof. Hillerbrand at the Academy of Art in Munich. From 1946–47 he studied drawing in Ried under Gabler, Traeger and Simonka. From 1948–53, the artist worked as an illustrator and press illustrator. 1960–61 he studied with Prof. Gisevius in Paris and 1962–63 with Prof. Soucek at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg. He was awarded the title of professor in 1984. From 1988 onwards, failing eyesight prevented him from continuing his artistic activities. An eye operation enabled him to resume his artistic work. Study trips took Fischlhammer to Italy, Yugoslavia, Spain, Greece, the Canary Islands, Malta and North Africa. The artist was a member of the Innviertler Künstlergilde, the Upper Austrian and Salzburg Kunstverein, the Schloss Parz artists’ group and the Vienna artists’ group Der Kreis. In his work, personal symbols and found objects from everyday life result in a game of illusions, paintings are collaged and vice versa. Hubert Fischlhammer died in Vienna in 2022. 1986 — first exhibition in the Welz gallery.
