Johnny FRIEDLAENDER was born in Pless / Upper Silesia in 1912. From 1928, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Breslau, master class for painting with Otto Mueller. He created his first designs for etchings and lithographs. In 1930, he moved to Dresden and his first exhibitions followed. 1933 internment. 1936 escape and emigration to Czechoslovakia. After an exhibition in The Hague, the artist left Holland and reached Paris as a political refugee. In 1939, he was arrested and interned again. He returned to Paris in 1944. From then on, he devoted himself more and more to etching. He was granted French citizenship in 1952. He took up painting again in 1966, producing his first paintings since 1940. In 1966/67 he was appointed professor at the Salzburg Summer Academy. After a busy exhibition schedule and numerous trips, the artist died in Paris in 1992. 1977 — first exhibition in the gallery Welz.
