Joanna GLEICH was born on September 28, 1959 in Kluczbork, Poland. Until 1979 she attended the Lyceum for Fine Arts in Opole. In 1979 she moved to Vienna and studied philology at the University of Vienna until 1983. 1983 to 1984 she completed a guest study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1985 to 1990 he studied painting with Wolfgang Hollegha at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1985 and 1986 Joanna Gleich took part in the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg and attended the painting class with Josef Mikl and the glass window class with Georg Meistermann. A study visit took her to New York in 1994. From 2001 to 2011 Joanna Gleich led a painting class at the Summer Academy in Lienz in East Tyrol, lectured at the Geras Academy in Lower Austria in 2007 and 2008, held courses in painting at the Goldegg Castle Academy from 2009 to 2015 and has been a lecturer at the Bad Reichenhall Art Academy. Joanna Gleich is regularly represented in exhibitions at home and abroad and has received art prizes and awards, including the 1998 Strabag Art Promotion Prize. The artist works with oil on canvas or paper. She builds her compositions out of layers in different color consistencies and shades. Although the tendency towards abstraction became apparent early on in her work, her art is always rooted in nature. Joanna Gleich has lived and worked in Vienna since 1979.
