Joan­na GLEICH was born on Sep­tem­ber 28, 1959 in Kluczbork, Poland. Until 1979 she attend­ed the Lyceum for Fine Arts in Opole. In 1979 she moved to Vien­na and stud­ied philol­o­gy at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Vien­na until 1983. 1983 to 1984 she com­plet­ed a guest study at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1985 to 1990 he stud­ied paint­ing with Wolf­gang Hol­legha at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Vien­na. In 1985 and 1986 Joan­na Gle­ich took part in the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Acad­e­my for Fine Arts in Salzburg and attend­ed the paint­ing class with Josef Mikl and the glass win­dow class with Georg Meis­ter­mann. A study vis­it took her to New York in 1994. From 2001 to 2011 Joan­na Gle­ich led a paint­ing class at the Sum­mer Acad­e­my in Lienz in East Tyrol, lec­tured at the Geras Acad­e­my in Low­er Aus­tria in 2007 and 2008, held cours­es in paint­ing at the Gold­egg Cas­tle Acad­e­my from 2009 to 2015 and has been a lec­tur­er at the Bad Reichen­hall Art Acad­e­my. Joan­na Gle­ich is reg­u­lar­ly rep­re­sent­ed in exhi­bi­tions at home and abroad and has received art prizes and awards, includ­ing the 1998 Stra­bag Art Pro­mo­tion Prize. The artist works with oil on can­vas or paper. She builds her com­po­si­tions out of lay­ers in dif­fer­ent col­or con­sis­ten­cies and shades. Although the ten­den­cy towards abstrac­tion became appar­ent ear­ly on in her work, her art is always root­ed in nature. Joan­na Gle­ich has lived and worked in Vien­na since 1979.
