Suzu­ki HARUNOBU (around 1725–1770) is one of the most impor­tant wood­cut artists of his time. In the 18th cen­tu­ry he made a deci­sive con­tri­bu­tion to the devel­op­ment of mul­ti­col­or print­ing ( nishiki‑e ) which peaked in 1765. With the rep­re­sen­ta­tion of beau­ti­ful women ( bijin-ga ) Designs for pic­ture cal­en­dars ( e‑goyomi ), Poet­ry, cal­en­dar and New Year sheets ( suri­mono ), Par­o­dies ( mitate‑e ), erot­ic rep­re­sen­ta­tions (shun­ga) and actor por­traits ( yakusha-ehon ) Harunobu became one of the lead­ing artists of his time. Harunobu’s works have their own splen­did, ele­gant note. His works are among the mas­ter­pieces of bijin-ga ‑Paint­ing.
