Gabriele KUTSCHERA was born in Vien­na in 1950. In 1968 she was accept­ed to the Uni­ver­si­ty of Applied Arts in Vien­na, mas­ter class for jew­el­ry and met­al design, and received her diplo­ma in 1973. Since 1975 she has worked as a free­lance artist in the fields of sculp­ture, jew­el­ry and prod­uct design, accom­pa­nied by numer­ous exhi­bi­tions. From 1986 to 2001, the artist was a lec­tur­er in met­al design at the HBLA for Artis­tic Design in Vien­na. Gabriele Kutschera has ded­i­cat­ed her­self to the art of forg­ing. In 1987 she start­ed work­ing as a jew­el­ry artist in a black­smith’s shop in Vorch­dorf in Upper Aus­tria. There she real­ized that the small forms designed for the body were no longer enough for her. In a rhyth­mic process in which the iron is heat­ed and hard­ened in con­stant alter­na­tion, she cre­ates space-con­sum­ing and space-cre­at­ing struc­tures. Gabriele Kutschera lives in Vien­na. 2004 – first exhi­bi­tion in the gallery Welz.
