Oskar LASKE was born in Cher­nivt­si, the cap­i­tal of Bukov­ina, in 1874. From 1892 to 1898 stud­ied archi­tec­ture at the Tech­ni­cal Uni­ver­si­ty, Vien­na. From 1899 to 1904 stud­ies at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Vien­na under Otto Wag­n­er. Pri­vate paint­ing stud­ies with Anton Hlavacek, a Vien­nese land­scape painter. Laske trav­els through Europe, the Mid­dle East and North Africa. What he saw and expe­ri­enced on his numer­ous jour­neys can be found in his water­col­ors and draw­ings. Dur­ing the First World War offi­cer in Gali­cia and from 1915 on the Ison­zo Front. Oskar Laske is employed as a war painter in the art group of the kuk war press quar­ter. From 1907 mem­ber of the Hagen­bund, from 1924 of the Vien­na Seces­sion and from 1928 of the Wiener Kün­stler­haus. The artist worked as a painter, graph­ic artist, set design­er, illus­tra­tor and archi­tect. Oskar Laske dies in Vien­na in 1951.
