Karl MOSTBÖCK, was born in Grein (Upper Aus­tria) in 1921, worked as an accoun­tant until 1940 and worked as a tech­ni­cal graph­ic design­er after the war. From 1946 onwards, as an auto­di­dact, he con­tin­u­ous­ly occu­pied him­self with Euro­pean art his­to­ry. Land­scapes, nudes and still lifes were the sub­jects of his ear­ly paint­ings. From 1964 onwards, the influ­ence of Zen Bud­dhism assert­ed itself in his work. From 1985 onwards, he increas­ing­ly incor­po­rat­ed infor­mal ele­ments into his work. The detach­ment from the rep­re­sen­ta­tion­al enabled the artist to inter­twine Zen paint­ing with the infor­mal. Karl Most­böck is con­sid­ered an Aus­tri­an rep­re­sen­ta­tive of infor­mal and scrip­tur­al paint­ing. His works are rep­re­sent­ed in domes­tic and for­eign muse­ums and col­lec­tions. The artist died on Octo­ber 10, 2013 in Steyr (Upper Aus­tria). 1979 – first exhi­bi­tion in the Welz gallery.
