Valentin OMAN was born on December 14, 1935 in St. Stefan / Šteben near Villach. From 1958 to 1962 he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna (master class Hilda Schmid-Jesser) and graduated in 1963 by attending a special class for printmaking (graphics class Riko Debenjak) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. In his work, Oman is particularly concerned with the image of man, whereby the figures, torsos and heads, are mostly only vaguely recognizable. In addition to numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, including in Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, the USA, Oman and Yemen, Valentin Oman realized a number of works for public spaces, including Frescoes, reliefs, aluminum and bronze work, especially in the sacred space. The artist has received numerous honors and awards, an honorary doctorate from the University of Klagenfurt (1995), the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art and the Golden Order of Merit of the Republic of Slovenia (2005). Valentin Oman lives and works in Vienna and Finkenstein / Bekštanj.
