Valentin OMAN was born on Decem­ber 14, 1935 in St. Ste­fan / Šteben near Vil­lach. From 1958 to 1962 he stud­ied at the Acad­e­my of Applied Arts in Vien­na (mas­ter class Hil­da Schmid-Jess­er) and grad­u­at­ed in 1963 by attend­ing a spe­cial class for print­mak­ing (graph­ics class Riko Deben­jak) at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Ljubl­jana. In his work, Oman is par­tic­u­lar­ly con­cerned with the image of man, where­by the fig­ures, tor­sos and heads, are most­ly only vague­ly rec­og­niz­able. In addi­tion to numer­ous exhi­bi­tions at home and abroad, includ­ing in Aus­tria, Slove­nia, Switzer­land, Ger­many, France, Bel­gium, Italy, the USA, Oman and Yemen, Valentin Oman real­ized a num­ber of works for pub­lic spaces, includ­ing Fres­coes, reliefs, alu­minum and bronze work, espe­cial­ly in the sacred space. The artist has received numer­ous hon­ors and awards, an hon­orary doc­tor­ate from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Kla­gen­furt (1995), the Aus­tri­an Cross of Hon­or for Sci­ence and Art and the Gold­en Order of Mer­it of the Repub­lic of Slove­nia (2005). Valentin Oman lives and works in Vien­na and Finken­stein / Bekštanj.
