Traudel PICHLER was born on October 13, 1941 in Mülheim an der Ruhr (D). In 1948 the family emigrated to the USA, from where they returned in 1956. From 1960 to 1961 Traudel Pichler studied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. In 1961 she moved to Vienna and continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts (Master School for Graphics and Painting). After completing her studies, her first exhibition took place in 1965, in the gallery of the Austrian State Printing Office in Vienna. In the mid-1960s Traudel Pichler settled in Salzburg, from where she travelled to Italy (Rome scholarship 1969), Great Britain (British Council scholarship, London 1969) and Spain. During these years the artist established herself in the Austrian art scene. In 1969 Pichler followed an appointment to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (teaching post for graphics and painting). Traudel Pichler received the Lower Austrian Painting Promotion Prize (1969), the Austrian State Prize for Painting (1975) and the Lower Austrian Culture Prize (1983). In the same year, a large personal exhibition took place in the Lower Austrian Documentation Centre in St. Pölten. Traudel Pichler dies on July 1, 2002.
