Walter PICHLER was born in Deutschnofen (South Tyrol) in 1936. From 1952 to 1955 attended the trade school in Innsbruck. Then until 1959 he studied graphics at the Academy for Applied Arts in Vienna and first sculptural work. 1960 spent one year in Paris. From 1962 to 1969 he worked in architecture, design and object art. 1963 first exhibition in the “Galerie St. Stephan” (with Hans Hollein) and stays in New York and Mexico. 1972 Acquisition of a farm in St. Martin an der Raab in southern Burgenland, additions and conversions for his sculptures. 1985 Grand Austrian State Prize. 1990 Establishment of the Gate to the Garden, Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna. Walter Pichler was a sculptor, architect, draftsman, book designer and object artist. He made many sketches, drawings and models and often combined materials that are difficult to combine. Time was an important material for him, on an equal footing with materials such as plastic, clay, wood, lead, tin and zinc. From 1963 exhibitions and participation in exhibitions at home and abroad.
