Wal­ter PICHLER was born in Deutschnofen (South Tyrol) in 1936. From 1952 to 1955, he attend­ed the trade school in Inns­bruck. He then stud­ied graph­ic design at the Acad­e­my of Applied Arts in Vien­na until 1959 and pro­duced his first sculp­tur­al works. In 1960, he spent a year in Paris. From 1962 to 1969, he worked on archi­tec­ture, design and object art. In 1963, his first exhi­bi­tion took place at the “Galerie St. Stephan” (with Hans Hollein) and he spent extend­ed peri­ods in New York and Mex­i­co. In 1972, Pich­ler acquired a farm in St. Mar­tin an der Raab in south­ern Bur­gen­land and exten­sions and con­ver­sions were built for his sculp­tures. In 1985, the artist was award­ed the Grand Aus­tri­an State Prize. In 1990, he cre­at­ed the Gate to the Gar­den for the Muse­um of Applied Arts, Vien­na. Wal­ter Pich­ler was a sculp­tor, archi­tect, drafts­man, book design­er and object artist. He made many sketch­es, draw­ings and mod­els and often com­bined mate­ri­als that are dif­fi­cult to com­bine. Time was an impor­tant mate­r­i­al for him, on an equal foot­ing with mate­ri­als such as plas­tic, clay, wood, lead, tin and zinc. From 1963 exhi­bi­tions and par­tic­i­pa­tion in exhi­bi­tions at home and abroad. Wal­ter Pich­ler died on July 16, 2012 in Vien­na. 2018 – first exhi­bi­tion in the gallery Welz.
