Thomas PÜHRINGER was born in Wels in 1941. From 1956 to 1962 he stud­ied at the Art School of the City of Linz in the mas­ter class for sculp­ture under Prof. Wal­ter Rit­ter and from 1962 worked as a free­lance sculp­tor, par­tic­i­pat­ing in exhi­bi­tions in Aus­tria and abroad. He was a mem­ber of the MAERZ artists’ asso­ci­a­tion from 1966 and a mem­ber of the Graz Seces­sion from 1973. Since 1967, Pühringer has received numer­ous prizes and awards, includ­ing the Theodor Körn­er Prize twice. His works include sculp­tures and reliefs in con­crete, ter­ra­cot­ta, bronze, cop­per and alu­minum work. From 1960 onwards he made wood­cuts and linocuts. Thomas Pühringer also dealt with the plan­ning and design of spaces and squares. The artist’s works can be found in pub­lic spaces and in pub­lic col­lec­tions. Thomas Pühringer died in Linz in 2018.
