Thomas PÜHRINGER was born in Wels in 1941. From 1956 to 1962 he stud­ied at the art school of the city of Linz in the mas­ter class for sculp­ture under Prof. Wal­ter Rit­ter and has been work­ing as a free­lance sculp­tor since 1962 with exhi­bi­tions at home and abroad. Since 1966 mem­ber of the artists’ asso­ci­a­tion MAERZ and since 1973 mem­ber of the Graz Seces­sion. Numer­ous prizes and recog­ni­tions since 1967, includ­ing twice the Theodor Körn­er Prize. His works include sculp­tures and reliefs in con­crete, ter­ra­cot­ta, bronze, cop­per and alu­minum work. From 1960 onwards he made wood­cuts and linocuts. In addi­tion, Thomas Pühringer deals with the plan­ning and design of rooms and places. The artist’s works can be found in pub­lic spaces and in pub­lic col­lec­tions. Thomas Pühringer dies in Linz in 2018.
