Emil SCHUMACHER was born in Hagen in West­phalia in 1912. 1932 stud­ies at the Dort­mund School of Applied Arts.
From 1935 active as a free­lance painter. 1947 found­ing of the artists’ asso­ci­a­tion “young west”. From 1955 exhi­bi­tions and par­tic­i­pa­tion in exhi­bi­tions at home and abroad. 1958 to 1960 pro­fes­sor at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Fine Arts in Ham­burg. 1966 to 1977 pro­fes­sor at the State Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Karl­sruhe. 1967 to 1968 vis­it­ing pro­fes­sor at the Min­neapo­lis School of Art.
Since 1968 mem­ber of the Akademie der Kün­ste, Berlin. Since 1982 mem­ber of the “Pour le Mérite” order for sci­ence and art. 1985 Guest of Hon­or at the Ger­man Acad­e­my in Rome. 1991 vis­it­ing pro­fes­sor at the Con­cor­so Supe­ri­ore Inter­nazionale del Dis­eg­no in Como. From 1999 mem­ber of the Sax­on Acad­e­my of the Arts, Dres­den. Emil Schu­mach­er, award­ed numer­ous prizes and hon­ors, dies in San José on Ibiza in 1999. 2007 – first exhi­bi­tion in the gallery Welz.
