Her­bert STEJSKAL was born in Salzburg in 1940. From 1959 to 1963, he stud­ied at the Vien­na Uni­ver­si­ty of Applied Arts under Pro­fes­sor Eduard Bäumer. In 1966/67 he worked with Emilio Vedo­va in Venice and Mon­tre­al. From 1966 to 1969 he was his assis­tant at the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Acad­e­my in Salzburg. From 1970 to 1980 he was tech­ni­cal direc­tor of the Inter­na­tion­al Sum­mer Acad­e­my and from 1973 a mem­ber of “Gruppe 73” until its dis­so­lu­tion in 1979. From 1976 he held a lec­ture­ship in graph­ic art at the Mozar­teum Uni­ver­si­ty in Salzburg until his retire­ment in 2008. From 1973 to 2007 he occu­pied a stu­dio in the Kün­stler­haus Salzburg. From 1980 to 1984 he was a mem­ber of the board of the Salzburg­er Kun­stvere­in. His very own tech­nique was screen print­ing, where­by his life was devot­ed to con­cen­trat­ed occu­pa­tion, work and refine­ment in series cen­tered on themes, forms and tech­niques. Her­bert Ste­jskal died in Salzburg in 2012. 1978 – first exhi­bi­tion in the gallery Welz.
