Herbert STEJSKAL was born in Salzburg in 1940. From 1959 to 1963, he studied at the Vienna University of Applied Arts under Professor Eduard Bäumer. In 1966/67 he worked with Emilio Vedova in Venice and Montreal. From 1966 to 1969 he was his assistant at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg. From 1970 to 1980 he was technical director of the International Summer Academy and from 1973 a member of “Gruppe 73” until its dissolution in 1979. From 1976 he held a lectureship in graphic art at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg until his retirement in 2008. From 1973 to 2007 he occupied a studio in the Künstlerhaus Salzburg. From 1980 to 1984 he was a member of the board of the Salzburger Kunstverein. His very own technique was screen printing, whereby his life was devoted to concentrated occupation, work and refinement in series centered on themes, forms and techniques.
