Wolf­gang STIFTER was born in Otten­sheim in Upper Aus­tria in 1946. 1964 to 1970 stud­ies at the Acad­e­my of Fine Arts in Vien­na, mas­ter class for graph­ics with Pro­fes­sor Max­i­m­il­ian Melch­er. 1969 Teacher train­ing course for art and craft edu­ca­tion. Since 1973 teach­ing activ­i­ty at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Artis­tic and Indus­tri­al Design in Linz. Full pro­fes­sor since 1989. 1991 to 2000 rec­tor at the Uni­ver­si­ty for Artis­tic and Indus­tri­al Design Linz. From 1997 to 2001 chair­man of the region­al cul­tur­al advi­so­ry board of Upper Aus­tria. Prizes include Theodor Körn­er Prize, 1977; Gold Medal of Hon­or of the State of Upper Aus­tria, 2000 and Cul­ture Prize for Fine Arts of the State of Upper Aus­tria, 2007. Mem­ber of the artists’ asso­ci­a­tion MAERZ, the IG Bildende Kun­st in Vien­na and the pro­fes­sion­al asso­ci­a­tion of fine artists of Upper Aus­tria. Live­ly exhi­bi­tion activ­i­ty since 1995. Wolf­gang Stifter lives and works in Otten­sheim. 2007 – first exhi­bi­tion in the gallery Welz.
