Helmut SWOBODA was born on January 1st, 1958 in Amstetten / Lower Austria. From 1975 to 1979, he graduated from the Höhere Graphische Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna. From 1979 to 1984 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (master class Wolfgang Hollegha). Nature is a source of inspiration for Helmut Swoboda. His paintings show the roughness of the mountain landscapes that fascinate the artist. In his recurring motifs, he tries to reproduce the movements of water, to capture the rhythm and transfer it to the canvas. He works with brushes, brooms, sponges, scraps and materials that he finds in nature. Swoboda’s art thrives on the dialectic between reference to nature and the autonomy of the sometimes quite monochrome condensed image (Peter Weiermair). Since 1984, the artist has participated in exhibitions and art fairs in Austria and abroad and has received numerous honors, prizes and awards, including the “trend art spectrum” prize (1985), the Lower Austria Promotion Prize for Fine Arts (1988), the Sandoz Art Prize (1995) and the Cultural Prize of the City of Amstetten (1998). Helmut Swoboda lives and works in Amstetten and Vienna. 1999 – first exhibition in the gallery Welz.
